A Studio in the Woods sits on a 7.66-acre bottomland hardwood forest along the Mississippi River, 30 minutes downriver from downtown New Orleans. Founded by Joe and Lucianne Carmichael in 1969, now part of the Tulane ByWater Institute. Residencies are environmentally focused — artists are encouraged to engage with the surrounding forest ecosystem, the Mississippi delta, and the climate-vulnerable Louisiana coast. Multi-week stays for visual artists, writers, composers, and interdisciplinary practitioners. Private cabin housing.
