Set on a 20,000-acre historic ranch at the foothills of Wyoming's Bighorn Mountains, Ucross has fostered working artists since 1983. All residencies are completely free, and every resident receives a $1,500 stipend toward travel costs. Up to 10 artists are in residence at a time — typically four writers, four visual artists, and two composers — for two- to six-week stays, with a professional chef preparing meals Monday through Friday. A dedicated Fellowship for Native American Artists includes a $2,000 award plus residency. About 100 artists served annually.
