SPRING/BREAK Art Show — the internationally recognized exhibition platform founded by Andrew Gori and Ambre Kelly that activates underused and historic spaces in New York City and Los Angeles to challenge the traditional art market landscape — presents "HIDE N SEEK" as its 2026 theme, rooted in art's long tradition of encoding essential meanings beneath accessible surfaces. From Renaissance painters concealing heretical philosophies under church-commissioned works to Basquiat's crown and Magritte's bowler hat as motifs carrying deeper intention, the theme calls for artworks operating through code, symbol, and implication — Neo-Surrealism, hidden neologism, palimpsest, underpainting, and process-based work where concealed layers create meaning beyond what's immediately visible. In a moment of rising authoritarianism and institutional suppression of dissenting voices, SPRING/BREAK seeks work that may not act as direct political organizing but that means something potent about the current cultural and political landscape — embracing both play and gravity, inner worlds and outer limits, where what is buried grows and what is shown too directly withers in the light. The New York City 2026 edition runs May 12–18, with a Collectors First Look, Press Preview, and VIP Opening Night on May 12.
