The Sacatar Foundation hosts artists on Itaparica Island in the Bay of All Saints off the coast of Salvador, Bahia — one of the most important centers of Afro-Brazilian culture. The Instituto Sacatar campus sits on a tropical hillside with ocean views and provides private studios, housing, meals, and a round-trip travel stipend. Residencies of 2–10 weeks bring together international and Brazilian artists in a setting deeply infused with candomblé, capoeira, and African-diaspora visual traditions.
