Red Gate Residency is one of Beijing's longest-running international artist residency programs, founded in 1999. Located in the 798 Art District — the epicenter of Chinese contemporary art — the program hosts 6–10 artists at a time for 1–3 month stays. Residents receive a private studio, accommodation, Mandarin lessons, studio visits from Chinese curators and critics, and guided introductions to Beijing's vast gallery and museum ecosystem. The program bridges the language and cultural gap that can make China's art world opaque to outsiders.
