Cemeti Institute for Art and Society

Cemeti is Indonesia's oldest contemporary art space, founded in Yogyakarta in 1988. Their residency program hosts international artists for 2–3 month stays in one of Southeast Asia's most vibrant art cities. Yogyakarta's extraordinarily low cost of living and dense concentration of artists, galleries, and artisan workshops make it a legendary destination for artists. Cemeti provides studio space, curatorial mentorship, and connections to the local art community. Accommodation is self-arranged but affordable ($200–400/month).
